The good life: Just like their owners, an increasing number of household pets are overweight and in risk of suffering chronic diseases like heart problems, diabetes and arthritis, Israel's leading newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported Sunday.
A study conducted in Britain recently among veterinarians and pet owners revealed that over 30 percent of the animals are fat.
According to 38 percent of respondents, their pets were particularly prone to putting on weight during the Christmas holidays, very much like the owners themselves.
The pet insurance company that sponsored the survey also discovered that after gaining weight, the pets have become lazy and reluctant to go on walks or move around.
Some 46 percent of survey respondents reported that during the holiday they prepared fattier, more lavish meals for their pets.
Unfortunately, the study also indicated that the participants in the survey showed no willingness to help their pets lose the excess weight.
