Jewish fashion influencer posted an image of herself on Instagram, wearing a period stained skirt in an effort to encourage female empowerment.
Leandra Medine Cohen, 32, who boasts almost one million followers on the social media account, captioned the image with the words, "Unsarcastically, I love being a woman."
The mother-of-two is the founder of now-defunct, popular fashion website "The Man Repeller," which focused on personal style not centered on the male gaze.
The image of Medine Cohen wearing the blood-stained skirt by the Australian luxury brand Selfe Studios, as of now has over 100,000 likes and over 1,000 comments, many of which are from women expressing support and sharing similar experiences.
"Happened to me in art class my senior year of high schools," wrote one user. "Wish I had this amount of confidence in 7th grade, but instead I called my mum crying, " said another follower."
Medine Cohen is married and resides in New York. In 2012, she was featured in Forbes's "Top 30 Under 30" as one of the year's "most influential trendsetters". In 2013, she released a book titled Man Repeller: Seeking Love, Finding Overalls.
She is said to have grown up in an Orthodox Jewish household in Manhattan.
