Greta Thunberg has joined the controversy surrounding Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour after Macklemore was dropped from the remaining dates following a pro-Palestinian speech at one of Sheeran’s concerts.
The dispute began when Macklemore used his opening set to voice support for Palestinians, prompting backlash over his remarks. He was later removed from the tour, setting off a second wave of criticism from fellow artists.
Finneas, Aaron Rowe, Lukas Graham and Irish band Beoga subsequently withdrew from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore.
Sheeran then sought to distance himself from the decision, saying he had not been responsible for removing Macklemore and rejecting claims that he had pushed for the rapper to be dropped.
The British singer said the matter had been handled by promoters and venues and defended Macklemore’s right to express his views.
Thunberg has now entered the dispute, sharing a statement from the Humaniti Project that sharply criticized Sheeran’s response.
“Ed, there is only one victim here: the Palestinian people,” the statement said.
The post also praised the artists who had withdrawn from the tour and called for broader support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.
