The nominees for the 78th Emmy Awards were announced Wednesday evening. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sept. 14 in Los Angeles. Leading the nominations, as expected, is the drama series “The Pitt,” which won the Outstanding Drama Series award last year.
The Pitt leads the list with 25 nominations, followed by the final season of Hacks, which leads the comedy categories with 24 nominations — a record for the number of nominations received by a comedy series for a single season.
Competing in the Drama Series category are “The Diplomat", "The Gilded Age", "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms", "Paradise", "The Pitt", "Pluribus", "Slow Horses" and "Your Friends & Neighbors". Notably absent is the final season of Euphoria, although Zendaya will compete in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category.

Alongside them, legendary director Rob Reiner received a posthumous nomination in the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for his appearance in The Bear, about seven months after he and his wife Michele were killed at their California home. It is his first Emmy nomination since 1978, when he won an award for his role in All in the Family.

Another nominee is Michael J. Fox, who will compete in the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for his appearance in Shrinking. It is his first nomination in a decade and his 18th overall. Fox retired from acting in 2020 after his Parkinson’s disease symptoms worsened, but returned for a guest role in the show’s third season, playing a Parkinson’s patient who is treated by Harrison Ford’s character.

Like Fox, Sally Field received an Emmy nomination after more than 15 years. She will compete in the Lead Actress in a Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category for her role in Netflix’s “Remarkably Bright Creatures.” It is her 14th nomination overall after winning three Emmy Awards during her career.
Another notable achievement belongs to actress Elle Fanning, who became one of the few performers to receive both an Oscar and Emmy nomination in the same year: an Oscar nomination for her film “Sentimental Value” and an Emmy nomination for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in “Margo's Got Money Troubles.”

Several major television stars also achieved unusual nomination totals this year. Jason Bateman leads with four nominations across several productions, while Quinta Brunson, Paul W. Downs, Matthew Rhys, Jason Segel, Martin Short and Noah Wyle each received three nominations.
Several series that ended this year also closed out their runs with a presence on the nominations list. Stranger Things received seven nominations for its fifth and final season, “Euphoria” received seven nominations for its final season and The Boys received five. “The Bear” has already aired its final season, but due to eligibility rules it will compete only at the 2027 ceremony.

The nominations were announced by actors Liza Colón-Zayas, who won an Emmy for her role in “The Bear,” and Jeff Hiller, also an Emmy winner for his role in “Somebody Somewhere.”
The ceremony is scheduled for September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and will be hosted by veteran actress Mariska Hargitay, star of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Hargitay is the first woman to host the ceremony in 15 years, with the last being Jane Lynch in 2011. The choice marks an interesting shift for a ceremony that is usually hosted by comedians, or at least comedic actors.

The 78th Emmy Awards will air live in Israel on yes and STING+. Last year’s biggest winners included Netflix hit Adolescence, created by and starring Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, “The Pitt,” which won the prestigious drama award and later arrived in Israel with the launch of HBO Max in the country, and The Studio, created by Seth Rogen, which won four awards and set a record for the most awards ever won by a comedy series.
