Pop star Britney Spears was arrested late Wednesday in California on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The Grammy-winning singer, 44, was stopped by officers from the California Highway Patrol in Ventura County at about 9:30 p.m., according to a report confirmed by Variety.
Spears was taken into custody and booked early Thursday morning, around 3 a.m., according to inmate records from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office reviewed by USA TODAY.
The records show she was released several hours later, shortly after 6 a.m.
Authorities said Spears is scheduled to appear in court on May 4. Officials did not immediately release additional details about the arrest.
