Israeli wins bronze medal in World judo Championship

With a streak of impressive victories and crushing losses, Israel national team faces judokas from Uzbekistan, Holland and South Korea before winning third place

The Israeli national judo team on Thursday, won the bronze medal in the World Judo Championship’s mixed team event.

  • Israel began the event with an impressive 4:2 score facing Uzbekistan. Israeli Judokas Timna Nelson Levy and Ido Levin lost their initial matches against Diyora Keldiyorova and Shakram Akhadov respectively, but later evened the score and won the match.

    Maya Goshen beat her opponent Gulnoza Matniyazova, followed by Sagi Muki, who managed to beat his opponent Mukhammadkarim Khurramov with an ippon, balancing the score at 2:2.
    Raz Hershko then beat her opponent Iriskhon Kurbanbaeva and Peter Paltchik then beat his opponent Shokhrukhkhon Bakhtiyorov, winning the first match for the Israeli team.
    Israel managed to beat South Korea at a 4:3 score. Ido Levin lost his match against Eunkyul Lee, Maya Goshen then beat her opponent Jeongyun Lee after Lee scored three fouls. Sagi Muki beat Joonhwan Lee and Raz Hershko then lost to her opponent Jijeong Kim. Peter Paltchik won against Juyeop Han with an ippon, but then Timna Nelson Levy lost to her opponent Mimi Huh.
    A tie breaker match was needed to settle the winner, in which Raz Hershko faced Jijeong Kim, and won, moving Israel to the semi-finals.
    Israel faced the French team during the semi-finals, and were beaten with a score of 1:4. Maya Goshen was beaten by Marie Eve Gahie, Sagi Muki lost to Alexis Mathieu and Raz Hershko lost to world champion Romane Dicko.

    Peter Paltchik managed to score a victory against Joseph Terhec, but Timna Nelson Levy then lost to Sarah Leonie Cysique.
    The Israeli team then faces Holland in the final match for the bronze medal, in which Israel managed to win with a score of 4:2.
    Guy Gurevitch lost the first match against Frank De Wit, then Raz Hershko managed to beat her opponent Guusje Steenhuis. Peter Paltchik took the next match but lost to Michael Korrel.
    Timna Nelson Levy matched the score after beating Pleuni Cornelisse, and Ido Levin took the advantage, winning against Ivo Verhorstert. Finally, Maya Goshen sealed the win for the Israeli team when she won against Sanne Vermeer, who was injured during the fight.
    Nelson Levy did not hurry to celebrate her victory, and instead assisted her opponent and supported her when returning to her team.
