It turns out being the most famous kid on the planet isn’t all selfies and turquoise wigs. Less than a month after launching her own (parent-supervised) Instagram account, North West has pulled the plug. No surprise—her mom Kim Kardashian knows a thing or two about the weight of social media, and her dad Kanye West... well, you get the idea.
So, ready for it? Calabasas’ busiest 12-year-old has officially said goodbye to Instagram—at least for now.
A quick search for “North” on Instagram now mostly turns up compass directions and a particularly dedicated fan page, but not the 12-year-old who made the rest of us feel underdressed, underfunded and far too tame.
So what happened? The drama kicked off when North—who carries herself with the confidence of a 45-year-old real estate mogul—decided to see just how far she could push Instagram’s limits. It began with artsy, blurry shots (unsurprising, given her dad is Ye) and quickly escalated to accessories that had school administrators everywhere doing double takes: a septum ring, a mysterious finger piercing and temporary tattoos that looked a little too convincing.
Commenters, because of course they know best, were quick to chime in, accusing North of “growing up too fast.” In true Kardashian-West fashion, she clapped back with a lip-sync video saying, “Why are you crying? How old are you? Just pull it together,” followed by the caption, “This is for everyone that’s mad over a finger piercing.” The drama? Pure Kanye energy.
For context, Kanye has previously voiced strong opposition to his kids being on Instagram or TikTok, calling the platforms tools “used by Disney.” And just when it seemed he and Kim had found common ground, spending Christmas together in the name of family unity, North’s account suddenly disappeared.
Was she blocked by Instagram? Did Kim decide a little digital detox wouldn’t hurt? Or did Kanye reset the password to something like I-Am-God-2026? For now, it’s a mystery, much like how you type with a finger piercing.
