Three years after her final appearances as Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot says she has had no discussions with James Gunn, Peter Safran or DC Studios about returning to the role, or about playing another character in the newly rebooted DC Universe.
Speaking to ScreenRant while promoting her new Prime Video thriller The Runner, Gadot was asked whether she could reprise the role of Diana Prince under Gunn and Safran’s leadership at DC Studios. She said there had been no “specific conversations” about either returning as Wonder Woman or taking on another DC character.
Gadot said the last substantive discussions about her future in the franchise took place when the new studio leadership first arrived. “They came to the studio, and they really wanted to develop the third one,” she said, referring to a third Wonder Woman film. Since then, Gadot added, she has not “heard anything.”
The actress also offered a warm message to whoever ultimately succeeds her in the role. “This is such an incredible character that so many of us care about so much, so whoever it’s going to be to portray her, I wish for her that she enjoys this amazing ride with this amazing character,” Gadot said. “And I’m just grateful that I was granted the opportunity to wear her boots and celebrate this incredible character and everything she stands for.”

Gadot first appeared as Diana Prince in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the second film in the DC Extended Universe overseen by Zack Snyder. She later starred in two standalone Wonder Woman films and appeared in other franchise titles, including Justice League.
Her final appearances as Wonder Woman came in cameos in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash, both released as the previous DC cinematic universe was winding down.
Gunn’s arrival as co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Safran ushered in a soft reboot of the franchise. Some actors and characters from the previous continuity have nevertheless carried over into the new DCU, leaving open questions about whether Gadot might also return.
Those questions have persisted in part because Jason Momoa, who previously played Aquaman in the former DC universe, has since taken on a different DC role as Lobo. Gadot’s latest comments, however, indicate that no comparable discussions have taken place in her case.
Meanwhile, development of a new Wonder Woman film within Gunn’s DCU is moving ahead. Ana Nogueira, who also worked on Supergirl and is part of the creative team shaping the new franchise, is writing the screenplay.
Gunn has previously said that no new actress has yet been cast as Wonder Woman. For Gadot, however, her comments suggest that her own chapter as the character may have reached its end, even as she remains grateful for the years she spent playing one of DC’s most recognizable superheroes.
