New details have emerged about the final hours of Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of Cindy Crawford and brother of Kaia Gerber, including video he recorded shortly before his death.
Gerber filmed himself Saturday night entering the sober living home where he was expected to stay before moving into a rehabilitation facility. In the video, he is seen wearing a white tank top, displaying his tattoos, with a necklace and glasses, as he films the room he had been given. Several hours later, he was found dead in that same room from an overdose.
TMZ reported that Gerber had taken drugs Saturday afternoon and became concerned that he was losing control. He then contacted his recovery coach, a professional who helps people maintain sobriety in their daily lives.
According to the report, the coach contacted the sober living facility, asked whether Gerber could be admitted and told staff that he was under the influence.
The facility reportedly does not normally admit people while they are intoxicated, but the staff member in charge at the time agreed to take him in.
After the coach brought Gerber to the facility and left, Gerber continued taking drugs, TMZ reported. The outlet said he may have believed it was his final weekend to use drugs before entering rehab. Hours later, he was found dead in his room.
The upscale property, estimated to be worth $7.7 million, includes a movie theater, gym, a kitchen stocked with chef-prepared food and views of the surrounding mountains.
TMZ reported that the staff member who agreed to admit Gerber while he was under the influence was subsequently fired.
Last week, TMZ also reported that Gerber’s longtime doctor had allegedly prescribed him ketamine despite knowing about his history of addiction.
People close to Gerber told the outlet that ketamine was among the drugs to which he had been addicted, leaving them questioning why he had allegedly been given more of it. According to the report, they are calling for the doctor to face prosecution.
Gerber’s body was cremated several days after his death, and his ashes were given to his parents, Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford.
People close to the family told People magazine that they were struggling to process the tragedy while making plans for a memorial service.
‘They are still deciding where they want to memorialize Presley. It is hard to make these types of decisions when everyone is dealing with so much emotional difficulty,’ a source said, adding that the family’s priority was maintaining privacy and keeping media and paparazzi away.
Another source said the family was trying to determine how to hold the memorial while keeping it intimate, despite the large number of people who had reached out hoping to attend.
The current plan, according to the source, is to hold the service somewhere in Malibu because of Gerber’s love of surfing and the ocean.
