Idan Amedi exits Fauda ahead of season 5 amid recovery from war injury

Israeli actor famed for thriller series says wishes to focus on rehabilitation and musical career and won't be able to accommodate filming

Israeli actor Idan Amedi on Tuesday announced he will not return for Fauda's fifth season, citing his ongoing recovery from severe injuries sustained in Gaza and his resumed music career. The actor informed producers he cannot participate in filming set to begin later this year.
As detailed in an interview marking the show’s 10th anniversary, writers must now address the exit of his character, undercover agent Sagi Tzur — husband of intelligence officer Nurit (Rona-Lee Shimon), who will continue in the series' next season.

“Idan has an insane schedule for someone so extraordinary," Fauda co-creator Avi Issacharoff explained in the interview. "He’s the most amazing person I’ve met — he should be prime minister one day. Unlike many talents who let fame go to their heads, Idan stays grounded. On October 7, he took his equipment and left to fight.”

Series producer Liat Benasuly added: “Over the seasons, we watched Idan evolve into a star. Sadly, he can’t juggle performances, recovery and our filming. We’re friends, love him deeply and wanted him for Season 5. We wrote a storyline for Sagi, but Idan said he can’t manage both his music and Fauda this year. We can’t delay production, so parting ways is unavoidable.”
Will his character make a return? “I don’t know yet. His character might die, but we haven’t decided,” Benasuly said.
