English actor Hugh Laurie paid tribute overnight Tuesday to Dana Eden, co-creator and producer of the series “Tehran,” who died Sunday during filming in Athens. She was 52.
“Dana Eden, who co-created and produced ‘Tehran’, died on Sunday, seemingly by her own hand. It’s a terrible thing,” Laurie wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “She was brilliant, and funny, and an exceptional leader. Love and condolences to all who knew her.”
Laurie, best known for starring in the television series “House,” appeared in the third season of “Tehran,” which aired in 2024. He portrayed a nuclear inspector in a central role opposite lead actress Niv Sultan.
Eden was found dead in her hotel room while production was underway on the fourth season of the espionage drama in Athens. Israeli police were notified, and a senior police official told ynet there was no indication of criminal involvement.
Shortly after news of her death emerged, her production company, Dana and Shula Productions, rejected rumors suggesting criminal or national motives.
“We call on the media and the public to refrain from publishing unverified speculation and to act with responsibility and sensitivity,” the company said in a statement. “This is a moment of great pain for the family, friends and colleagues. We ask that Dana’s dignity and her loved ones’ privacy be respected.”
Eden was considered one of the most prominent and influential producers in Israeli television. She co-produced “Tehran” with her longtime partner Shula Spiegel. The series, one of the most successful Israeli television dramas in recent years, led to a multimillion-dollar distribution deal with Apple TV+.
Production on the fourth season was underway in Athens at the time of her death.
