Georgina Rodriguez turns intimate Ronaldo wedding into a $50 million jewel show

Georgina Rodriguez wore more than 250 carats of Chopard jewelry, including Beyoncé’s Met Gala necklace, as she wed Cristiano Ronaldo at home with their five children

Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez had a small wedding, but the bride's jewelry was anything but small. The couple married last week in a private and secret ceremony, but details about the big day are slowly emerging — and while the wedding was intimate, it was also dazzling.
The two married on the 10th anniversary of their meeting, and the groom, bride and their five children all wore Gucci designs — a nod to the story of how they met, as Rodriguez was working at the brand's Madrid store when they met 10 years ago. They didn't go too overboard with their outfits: Ronaldo wore a simple T-shirt and suit jacket, while Georgina wore a blouse and skirt.
But who was paying attention to the clothes when the bride was practically glowing with diamonds? According to reports, Rodriguez wore more than 250 carats of jewelry from Swiss luxury house Chopard at the wedding, valued at more than $50 million.
Her necklace, called the "Garden of Kalahari," was particularly impressive. It featured a pendant set with an extraordinary 50-carat brilliant-cut diamond with flawless clarity, alongside smaller stones totaling more than 146 carats. If all those terms don't mean much to you, that's OK. The bottom line: It's extremely expensive and extremely heavy. And if that wasn't enough to impress you, perhaps the jewelry's résumé will: Before Rodriguez, the necklace was worn by Beyoncé at the Met Gala in May.

But why settle for a lot when you can have even more? Rodriguez also wore a bracelet featuring two emerald-cut diamonds weighing 21 and 14.7 carats, respectively, surrounded by an additional 13.1 carats of sparkling stones. She also wore a ring featuring a 20-carat cushion-cut diamond and an additional 6.9 carats of stones.
Surprisingly, when it came to their wedding bands, the couple opted for relative simplicity, choosing plain gold rings. Perhaps that's because Ronaldo spent more than $5 million on the engagement ring.
A few days before the ceremony, the two spoke to Vogue and revealed that the wedding would take place inside the home where they live.
"We chose to do it in the living room of our home, where we eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, and where we live our lives. In 30 years, I want the children to think, 'Something wonderful happened at this table — our parents' wedding vows,'" Georgina said.
She added: "In the future, we'll have a big wedding so we can celebrate with family and friends. When I was a little girl, I dreamed of the biggest castle, the biggest carriage, the longest dress, a crown full of diamonds. And now I'm saying: No. I want something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home. Because castles, houses, islands, horses, cars — we have all of that within reach every day. But something intimate is more unusual for us."
The following day, she told the magazine: "It was exactly as I imagined it. Intimate, full of love and with our family at the center. I couldn't stop the tears."

Let's hope you never have to use that prenup

Given Ronaldo's enormous fortune and Rodriguez's numerous assets, the two made the prudent decision to sign a prenuptial agreement stipulating that, in the event of a divorce, each asset would belong to the person who earned the money to purchase it or bought it themselves. Each would leave the relationship with the assets registered in their name. Only assets explicitly registered in both their names would be divided between them. In addition, Rodriguez will receive $114,000 a month in alimony.
