Critically acclaimed Whitney Houston tribute coming to Tel Aviv

Dutch music star, Glennis Grace, noted for her soulful vocal skills and visual similarity to Houston, is set to perform many of the late star's biggest hits; says she was told Israeli fans are loving and welcoming and will give the performance her all

The Charles Bronfman Auditorium in Tel Aviv is set to be the venue for a very special tribute to the late R&B legend Whitney Houston, whose songs will be performed by Dutch songstress Glennis Grace.

  • Eleven years after Houston's tragic demise, her world-renowned tribute show is coming to Israel on May 17, and all her timeless hits will be performed by Grace, who represented the Netherlands in the 50th Eurovision Song Contest and has also appeared on America's Got Talent.

    Glennis Grace, born Glenda Hulita Elisabeth Batta, was born in 1978 in Amsterdam to a mother from the Netherlands and a father from Curaçao, a Lesser Antilles island country in the southern Caribbean Sea.
    Her discovery came in 1994, when the then 15-year-old, won the Dutch TV talent show "Soundmixshow" by performing "One Moment in Time," a Whitney Houston hit song.
    In 2012, she founded the Dutch supergroup Ladies of Soul, together with fellow Dutch artists Candy Dulfer, Berget Lewis, Edsilia Rombley, and Trijntje Oosterhuis.
    "I'm very excited for my show in Israel this May. I'm told Israeli fans are very loving and welcoming and I promise to give my finest performance," Grace said in a statement.

    Among the songs to be performed are "Wanna Dance With Somebody", "I’m Every Woman", "I Will Always Love You", and "Greatest Love Of All" in addition to other greats.
    Just two months ago, the film "Whitney Houston: I wanna Dance with Somebody", starring English actress Naomi Ackie in the lead role, was released, making close to $60 million at the box office.
    Ticket sales for the Tel Aviv concert are underway and start at $70.
