The Independence Day torch-lighting ceremony at Mount Herzl on Tuesday featured several standout moments, but much of the public attention quickly turned to one of the flag bearers who went viral overnight.
Sgt. Oren Metzuyanim, a 21-year-old lone soldier serving in the IDF, drew widespread attention on social media following the broadcast, with viewers sharing clips and praising her appearance during the ceremony.
Metzuyanim serves as a career NCO under Ground Forces Command and works as a management officer in the Behavioral Sciences Corps.
She returned to Israel about five years ago while in 11th grade to complete her matriculation exams and enlist, after spending much of her childhood abroad with her family. She now lives with her grandparents.
Metzuyanim has reportedly been contacted by talent agent Roberto Ben-Shoshan — who represents major Israeli stars including Noa Kirel — has already approached Metzuyanim. The two are expected to meet after the holiday, raising the possibility of opportunities in the entertainment industry.
