Disney’s recent live-action films have featured stars such as Angelina Jolie, Emma Stone, Emma Watson and Beyoncé. Now supermodel Gigi Hadid revealed she almost joined that glittering list — auditioning for the role of Rapunzel in a planned live-action adaptation of "Tangled."
In an interview with Vogue, Hadid said she tested for the role of the long-haired princess locked in a tower waiting to be rescued. Although she didn’t land the part, she said she took the process seriously, even taking vocal lessons to prepare for the audition.
"I was really proud of my scene. The singing… I knew they were going to go with a real singer, but I’ll show you my audition scene later,” Hadid told fellow model Kendall Jenner, who was featured with her.
Hadid, who has been one of the world’s most successful models, explained that she wanted to challenge herself outside of fashion. “What do we do in this job anymore that scares us?” she asked Jenner.
The 29-year-old has only appeared on screen as herself, in projects such as "Ocean’s 8" and various reality shows.
Despite Hadid’s efforts, neither she nor anyone else will appear as Rapunzel. Disney canceled the project in its early development stage. According to reports, the decision came after the studio’s troubled Snow White remake — starring Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler — failed to recoup its massive production budget at the box office.
