he winter system continues, bringing overnight snowfall to Mount Hermon. Intermittent rain is expected across northern and central Israel until midday Friday, with a chance of isolated thunderstorms. Rainfall will gradually weaken during the day, but there remains a risk of flash floods in the Judean Desert and Dead Sea streams during the morning hours.
Temperatures will drop, particularly in mountainous and inland regions, and will remain below the seasonal average. Brisk winds will continue across most areas. Overnight, intermittent rain is forecast in the north and center, with light local rainfall possible in the south. Snow is expected on Mount Hermon. Strong winds will persist along the coast and in the mountains, with partly to mostly cloudy skies. By early next week, rainfall totals in northern and central Israel are expected to reach 50 to 70 millimeters, a relatively high amount for the final third of March.
On Saturday, intermittent rain accompanied by isolated thunderstorms will continue in the north and center until midday. By the afternoon, rainfall will spread southward, increasing the risk of flash floods in the Negev, Arava, and the Judean Desert and Dead Sea regions. Temperatures will drop slightly further and remain below average, with continued strong winds across much of the country.
On Sunday, rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in northern Israel, while central areas will see local showers until midday. Temperatures will remain below seasonal norms.
On Monday, from midday onward, showers and thunderstorms are expected in southern Israel, with a risk of flooding in the Negev and Arava. Temperatures will rise, and skies will be partly to mostly cloudy.
In the wetter northern regions, particularly the Upper Galilee and the Golan Heights, more than 100 millimeters of rain could accumulate in the coming days. The Israel Meteorological Service said the system could make March a notably rainy month and help reduce the rainfall deficit recorded in northern Israel since the start of the season.
Dr. Amir Givati, director of the Meteorological Service, said: “After weeks of springlike conditions and at times even summer temperatures, winter is returning just as the official spring begins. Flooding has already been recorded in southern Israel over the past day, and by the weekend the rains will reach the north with intensity. The coming days will significantly improve rainfall levels in the north and increase flow in streams that have been waiting for these rains.”
Forecast temperatures for today and tonight:
Jerusalem 9 to 15 degrees Celsius, Tel Aviv 12 to 19, Haifa 12 to 17, Safed 5 to 12, Katzrin 9 to 15, Tiberias 11 to 18, Nazareth 8 to 17, Afula 9 to 19, Beit She’an 12 to 21, Lod 13 to 20, Ashdod 14 to 20, Ein Gedi 15 to 24, Beersheba 12 to 20, Mitzpe Ramon 9 to 18, and Eilat 17 to 24.
