Police said the arrest was initiated by an off-duty detective from the Tel Aviv District’s central investigative unit who was vacationing nearby. The detective, who witnessed the alleged abuse, took the dog from the man and cared for it until a veterinarian arrived.

The suspect was questioned at the Mesubim police station on suspicion of animal cruelty, then placed in custody. On Monday, the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court released him under restrictive conditions.
The dog was transferred to the municipal veterinary services for further treatment and examination.
Police praised the detective’s intervention, saying his vigilance “prevented further harm to the dog and the continuation of the offense. This is an example of the police’s commitment to protect the defenseless and prevent violence in all areas.”
