Flood warnings issued as first winter storm hits Israel

Storm brings heaviest rainfall since start of season and low temperatures but all expected to pass by late Wednesday; most rain recorded in central area around International airport

The Israeli meteorological services on Tuesday, issued flood warnings for central and coastal areas as the first winter storm brought substantial rainfall for the first time this season.

The heaviest rain was reported in the area of the Ben Gurion International Airport with up to 30 mm recorded between midnight and 6 am.
Northern coastal areas saw 27 mm. of rain and in the eastern parts, along the Sea of Galilee, only 9 mm. of rain fell.
Most areas saw more rain overnight than since the start of this year's rainy season, but the storm is expected to be short-lived and precipitation to end by late Wednesday.

Meteorologists say temperatures will remain lower than seasonal average, but are expected to rise slightly on Thursday
The Interior Ministry warned bathers away from the sea as concerns of contaminated water, typical of such storms, rose. Most Tel Aviv beaches were closed while waves are expected to rise to 1.50 meters.
