Jerusalem zookeeper mauled to death by leopard

The leopard appears to have escaped its enclosure while the employee was preparing for a visitor's tour; trauma team identified extensive injuries to his upper body

Uriel Nuri, A 36-year-old man was killed Friday morning after being attacked by a leopard at the Tisch Family Zoological Gardens, commonly known as the Biblical Zoo, in Jerusalem.
According to zoo officials, the leopard appears to have escaped its enclosure while the employee was preparing enrichment activities as part of a visitor tour. The incident occurred around 9:55 a.m. local time.

Magen David Adom emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, where they found the man unconscious with severe injuries. He was transported in critical condition to Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

“The trauma team identified extensive injuries to his upper body,” the hospital said in a statement. “Despite prolonged resuscitation efforts, his death was declared.”

The leopard had reportedly been brought to Israel earlier this year as part of the zoo’s conservation efforts. Police units from Jerusalem’s Moriah precinct have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
