Israel braces for storms, hail and flood danger

Temperatures are set to fall below seasonal norms as rain and thunderstorms spread across much of the country, snow hits Mount Hermon and forecasters warn of dangerous flash floods in the Negev, Arava, Judean Desert and Dead Sea region

Temperatures were expected to drop Wednesday across Israel to below seasonal norms, with local showers and thunderstorms forecast in the north and center, snow on Mount Hermon and a heightened risk of flash flooding in southern desert waterways.
Rain was expected to strengthen gradually from midday in most parts of the country and at times be accompanied by hail. Forecasters warned of a severe risk of flooding in streams in the Negev, the Arava, the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea area. Jerusalem was forecast at 8-12 degrees Celsius (46-54 Fahrenheit), while Tel Aviv was expected to range from 12-17 C (54-63 F).

Stormy weather was also expected Thursday, with rain, thunderstorms and hail forecast in most areas of the country, along with snow on Mount Hermon. Forecasters also warned of possible flooding in streams and urban flooding along the coastal plain and in the central hills. Rain was expected to ease gradually by evening. Jerusalem was forecast at about 9-12 C (47-53 F), and Tel Aviv at about 14-18 C (57-64 F).
On Friday, local rain was expected to continue in the north and center before tapering off from the afternoon, alongside a slight rise in temperatures. Another increase was forecast for Saturday. Jerusalem was forecast at about 8-14 C (46-56 F) on Friday and 11-19 C (52-66 F) on Saturday, while Tel Aviv was expected at about 12-20 C (54-67 F) on Friday and 17-23 C (63-74 F) on Saturday.
Forecast temperatures for Wednesday and Wednesday night in other cities were: Haifa 11-16 C (52-61 F), Safed 6-10 C (43-50 F), Katzrin 8-14 C (46-57 F), Tiberias 10-16 C (50-61 F), Nazareth 10-15 C (50-59 F), Afula 9-17 C (48-63 F), Beit Shean 11-18 C (52-64 F), Lod 11-17 C (52-63 F), Ashdod 12-18 C (54-64 F), Ein Gedi 15-22 C (59-72 F), Be'er Sheva 10-17 C (50-63 F), Mitzpe Ramon 9-15 C (48-59 F) and Eilat 16-21 C (61-70 F).
