Lightning near planes at Ramon Airport as desert stream flows; heavier rain may follow

Rain falls for a second consecutive day in the southern Negev, bringing flowing water to Nahal Gishron and lightning over Ramon Airport; forecasters say more showers are possible Monday, with potentially significant rainfall along the coast Thursday and Friday

Lightning lit up the sky near aircraft at Ramon Airport on Sunday as rain fell across Israel's southern desert for the second consecutive day, sending water flowing through normally dry streams in the Eilat Mountains.
Rain began falling across the Arava region in the afternoon. Ramon Airport, in the southern Arava, recorded 7 millimeters of rainfall, while Mount Uziyahu in the Eilat Mountains received 3.5 millimeters.

Nahal Gishron, a normally dry stream in the Eilat Mountains, was filmed flowing following the rainfall. Dramatic footage also captured lightning flashing near planes at Ramon Airport.
Farther north, Hatzeva in the northern Arava recorded 2 millimeters of rainfall, while Eilat itself received less than 1 millimeter.

On Monday, skies will be partly to mostly cloudy, with a slight drop in temperatures. Localized showers, mostly light, are possible during the morning, particularly in northern Israel and along the coast.
In the afternoon, isolated rain could return to the southern Negev and Arava, continuing the pattern seen over the weekend.
Temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged Tuesday before rising slightly Wednesday.
On Thursday, temperatures will fall again to slightly below seasonal averages, with localized rain possible in northern and central Israel. Forecasters say more substantial rainfall could develop Thursday and Friday, especially along the coast.
