Israel is bracing for a shift in weather starting Thursday, as clouds and scattered rain give way to heavier showers and cooler temperatures through the weekend, prompting emergency services to prepare for potential flooding and rescues.
Thursday’s weather is expected to be partly to mostly cloudy, with temperatures slightly above seasonal averages, particularly in the mountains and inland areas. Light, scattered rain is possible in northern and central Israel through midday, with a chance of local showers later in the south and east. There is a slight risk of flash floods in the southern Arava region.

By evening and overnight, rain is forecast to intensify along the coastal plain, accompanied by thunderstorms. Forecasters warn of a risk of localized flooding in low-lying coastal areas by morning.
Friday will bring periodic rain and thunderstorms across the north and center, with showers expected to extend to the Negev desert by midday. Winds will strengthen, and temperatures will drop significantly, falling below seasonal norms. The risk of flash flooding will expand to streams in the Judean Desert and around the Dead Sea.
Saturday will see occasional local rain in the north and center, with morning flood risks still present along the coast. Temperatures will remain slightly below average. On Sunday, intermittent light rain is expected from the north down to the northern Negev, tapering off by evening. Conditions will stay cooler than usual for this time of year.
Fire and Rescue Services have heightened readiness ahead of the changing weather, preparing for emergency rescues and flash flood responses. Fire Commissioner Eyal Caspi ordered all regional commands to complete their storm preparations, including deploying water rescue boats, checking equipment, conducting drills and placing specialized units on high alert.
Authorities issued safety guidelines to the public: avoid underground parking during floods, do not use elevators in flood-prone areas, steer clear of crossing streams or flooded zones and take special care of the elderly, children and individuals with disabilities.
