Dogs deserve spaces in the home that feel just as well maintained as our own

Today is International Dog Day, a reminder that our companions deserve care equal to our own; adoption saves lives, comfort builds trust, design shows love, and every thoughtful gesture tells our dogs the same thing; you are family, you are home

They flop onto their backs in the middle of the living room, paws in the air; they’re waiting by the door before we even whisper the word ‘walk’; they can recognize the exact rustle of a snack bag; and, above all, they love us unconditionally. Our dogs are part of our family, and every year on August 26 — International Dog Day — we get the perfect reminder: their spaces at home deserve just as much care and beauty as ours.

Adoption is a huge part of this love story. Sadly, too many dogs are abandoned when vacation season comes around. To help, Hollandia has teamed up with the SPCA in Israel to dedicate a month to adoption. Anyone bringing an adoption form to a Hollandia branch receives a free TEMPUR mattress for their dog — a soft, supportive bed worth hundreds of shekels.
Adam Arbiv, chairman of the Israeli SPCA, knows the heartbreak firsthand.
"We sometimes find dogs tied to our gates at dawn, left because their humans didn’t plan for the holidays. For some, it’s money; for others, convenience. But it’s always easier to abandon than to arrange care," he explains.
Still, Arbiv sees hope: adoption awareness is climbing steadily. "More people now realize an adopted dog — whether one, two, or three years old — bonds with the family almost instantly. Dogs are loyal, loving, and can sense our emotions before we even name them ourselves."
The SPCA doesn’t just shelter; it heals. Abandoned dogs go through gentle rehabilitation to rebuild their trust in humans. Over time, they find their place in new families. Arbiv points out how far we’ve come: "Not so long ago, a dog might sleep outside on a rag. Today, owners invest in medical insurance, quality food, toys, and yes — a bed as comfortable as our own. Because they are family."

Designers have embraced this truth, creating furniture and accessories worthy of our four-legged companions. From Hollandia’s NASA-inspired TEMPUR dog mattresses to local brands like HOS'A that craft luxury beds blending seamlessly with home décor, the message is simple: a dog’s corner isn’t something to hide. It’s a centerpiece — warm, stylish and alive with love.
Even technology has stepped in, with smart feeders and fountains making sure no tail ever goes thirsty or hungry. And for the ropes, toys, and chewed-up tennis balls? Elegant storage solutions now tuck them away while keeping the home beautiful.
In the end, it’s about more than style. It’s about recognizing that the wagging tail at the door, the eyes that light up just for us, deserve a space that reflects the love they give so freely.
