A medical intern in his 30s was found dead Sunday in staff housing on the grounds of Sheba Medical Center, the hospital said, as police opened an investigation into the circumstances of his death. Officials said they were examining the possibility that he died by suicide.
In a statement, Sheba said the intern’s body was discovered after managers noticed he had not reported for his shift.
“Following alertness by managers this morning, it was found that an intern had not arrived for his duty,” the hospital said. “Teams were dispatched to his apartment in the staff housing, where he was found without signs of life. The incident is currently being handled by the Israel Police.”
The hospital added that it was in contact with the family. “Sheba Medical Center shares in the family’s deep grief, is in contact with them, and will continue to accompany them,” the statement said.
