Israel records 213 new COVID cases since midnight

Health Ministry says throughout Monday one virus patient passed away, bringing the overall death toll to 6,430; tally of serious cases remains stable at 21; infection rate up to 0.5%, with an average of 150 new daily cases

Israel recorded at least 213 new coronavirus cases since midnight Monday, health officials said.

    The ministry said at least 21 patients are currently in serious condition, of whom 15 are ventilated.
    One more patient has died from the illness over the past day, bringing the overall death toll in the country to 6,430. Since the start of June, eight patients lost their battle with the illness.
    In the past nine days, 1,355 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Israel, an average of 150 new daily cases per day. For comparison, in the first 19 days of this month, 354 people tested positive for the pathogen, with an average of 18 new diagnoses per day.

    Despite the increase in the number of new daily cases, the number of hospitalizations and serious patients remains stable and in some cases has even seen a decrease.
    For instance, on June 8, hospitals recorded 56 COVID patients being treated, while on Monday morning only 43 people confirmed to being treated in hospitals. Three weeks ago, 31 coronavirus patients were in critical condition, compared to 21 on Monday morning. On June 8, 18 coronavirus patients were connected to respirators, 12 of them over the age of 60, while on Monday the number has dropped to 15.
    In the meantime, the Health Ministry said that 13,446 people had received their first dose of the vaccine on Sunday, the highest number of vaccinations since March.
