The plant Uncaria Tomentosa (Cat's Claw) is named for its curved thorns, which resemble claws. It originates in the rainforests of Peru and the Amazon, where it is considered a sacred plant and has been used for centuries in the traditional medicine of Indian tribes.
Traditional medicine
In the Indian medicine of tribes in Peru it was used to treat fevers, chronic inflammation and digestive problems. Considered a purifying plant, protecting and strengthening energy and immunity.
Clinical studies
Immunomodulatory activity. Strengthening the regulation of the immune system and the potential to shorten the duration of recurrent infections. Proven anti-inflammatory activity, especially in arthritis and other chronic inflammation. Plant extracts have shown the ability to raise antioxidant levels in protecting cells.
In Western natural medicine, it is also used to support periods of fatigue, lack of vitality and prevention of winter diseases.
How to use
Infusion: 1-2 teaspoons of stem/root bark in a cup of boiling water. Soak for about a quarter of an hour and drink.
Tincture: 20–30 drops, twice a day (under the guidance of a certified therapist).
Capsules/powder: As a dietary supplement - the dosage varies by manufacturer.
Caution
Forbidden for pregnant or breastfeeding women and children.
Consult your doctor in cases of autoimmune diseases or after transplants. There may be interactions with anticoagulant and immunosuppressant drugs.
High dose may cause nausea or diarrhea.
