An Orthodox Jew from Long Island has sued his landlady after reporting she evicted him for refusing to remove a mezuzah from his door, according to the New York Post.
The 53-year-old Arye Sachs claims his allegedly anti-Semitic landlady, Margarit Pascale, repeatedly commanded him to remove the mezuzah from the door of his North Babylon apartment.
"Pascal informed me this residence is a Christian residence, and if I will not remove my mezuzah, I will be out ‘on the street,'" Sachs said.
The mezuzah was a family heirloom that came down from his grandfather, who survived the Holocaust, Sachs said. He went on to call it a "priceless, irreplaceable protector" which he attests helped him recover from three separate strokes.
The mezuzah even helped him get through a divorce, which he calls "one of the most amicable and peaceful divorces known to man."
That is some mezuzah.
Sachs claims that the mezuzah was missing when he returned home from a trip, and was later evicted for not complying with Pascale's demands.
Sachs has since issued a Brooklyn federal lawsuit against Pascale.
