According to reports, the assailant briefly confronted the victim, hurled insults at Jews and said that it would "be all right if the Holocaust happened today." He then pulled out a knife and stabbed the man in the chest. The victim attempted to defend himself, struggled with the attacker and prevented the blade from penetrating deeply.
The injured man was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was treated. His condition was described as minor.
The suspect fled the scene on foot. New York City police, assisted by volunteers from the Crown Heights Shomrim neighborhood watch group, launched a search to locate him.
In a separate incident on Monday, several Chabad Hasidim were attacked while riding the subway home from a Hanukkah event held in Manhattan to Crown Heights. One of the victims, who was filmed during the confrontation, said: “The moment the younger of the two realized I was filming, he attacked me.” At that point, another Chabad Hasid recorded the incident from several meters away. The footage was later circulated on social media.
