Iran's sole Jewish lawmaker warns community to stay off Israeli social media

Dr. Homayoun Sameh says security agencies summoned him over Jewish users’ likes and comments on Israeli content, urging Iran’s Jews to delete past interactions and leave Persian-language Israeli channels to avoid potential legal trouble

The Jewish representative in Iran’s parliament issued a sharp warning to members of the country’s Jewish community this week, urging them to avoid following Israeli social media accounts, particularly official Persian-language channels affiliated with the Israeli government.
Dr. Homayoun Sameh, who in June 2025 publicly wished Iran victory during the war with Israel, said in a letter that he had been summoned by Iranian security agencies because some community members had posted “inappropriate comments” or clicked “like” on “incorrect content,” which he said created misunderstandings among the country’s intelligence bodies.

Sameh wrote that he held face-to-face meetings with the authorities “to resolve the problem of the community members,” adding that “fortunately, no issues arose for these individuals.”
He warned, however, that Jewish Iranians must act immediately if they have interacted with sensitive material online. “If you have posted unusual, sensitive or misleading comments or likes, please delete them as soon as possible,” he wrote.

He further instructed community members to leave any channels “attributed to the Zionist regime,” including Persian-language accounts and specifically those of the IDF or other “hostile” outlets.
“It is clear that if you do not delete comments and likes, or if you continue to be members of these channels, legal problems may arise and it will be much more difficult to resolve the issue in the future,” Sameh wrote.
