Police spokesperson Zoya Vovk of the Cherkasy region said the seized substances have been sent for laboratory analysis and that criminal proceedings have been initiated against a number of suspects. “Yes, such incidents happen—not just this year, but every year,” she noted, stressing that the violations are isolated and do not represent widespread disorder. “There have been no serious violations recorded so far.”
Authorities in Uman have enforced a ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol during the high-volume pilgrimage. Security in the area is being handled by a combined force of local law enforcement, the National Guard, emergency services and the State Migration Service.
Nine Israeli police officers are also on site, assisting with patrols and communication, particularly to help bridge language gaps and ensure pilgrims understand emergency rules, curfews and public order regulations.

Vovk added that random checks are being conducted at roadblocks around the city, with traffic police verifying documents. In response to online reports about drug smuggling attempts and illegal alcohol possession, she reiterated that the police are actively monitoring the situation and taking preventive steps in cooperation with Israeli officers.
According to the United Jewish Community of Ukraine, about 35,000 Breslov Hasidim have already arrived in Uman for the annual pilgrimage to the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, with up to 38,000 expected overall. The first day of Rosh Hashanah passed peacefully, with no major disturbances reported.
