An antisemitic poster was displayed at an anti-Israel rally held Saturday in Saphan Hin, Phuket, Thailand. Among those attending was Sondhi Limthongkul, 79, one of the leaders of Thailand's "Yellow Shirts" protest movement, who stood in front of a sign reading "No Israel – Save Phuket." An AI-generated poster displayed at the rally depicted an ultra-Orthodox Jew swallowing banknotes, buildings and images of Thai public figures. The image was intended to evoke antisemitic conspiracy theories about Jewish control over money and government.
.Saturday's rally in Phuket was organized by PLPG, the Phuket Land Protection Group. One of its leaders had called on social media for Israelis living in Thailand and those affiliated with Chabad, the Jewish outreach movement, to be expelled from the country. He described Chabad as "a fundraising center for the Israeli network" and said it should be "uprooted" from Thailand.

The rally came after Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul signed an order last week revoking the Thai citizenship of Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kantor, the head of Chabad in Thailand and chief rabbi of the country's Jewish community. The main reason cited was that Kantor had used his American passport 16 times after becoming a Thai citizen in 2013.
According to a statement from Thailand's Interior Ministry, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), which operates under the Justice Ministry, identified 16 instances in which Kantor entered and departed destinations in Australia using an American passport. The most recent incident cited occurred Jan. 26, 2026. According to the ministry, Kantor was aware of the naturalization requirements when he submitted his application but continued using his previous citizenship. Thai authorities said this constituted a violation of those requirements.
Another antisemitic incident occurred in Thailand on Saturday night when Ahavat Hashem Gordon was harassed while filming a video for social media. In footage Gordon posted online, a passerby can be heard shouting insults and offensive remarks at him in English, including "Jewish boy" and "Free Palestine."
The weekend incidents follow several anti-Israel protests in Thailand over the past month. Among them was a demonstration in which hundreds of people gathered outside the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok, carrying signs opposing Israel and protesting the conduct of Israelis in the country. The embassy was temporarily closed. Meanwhile, Deputy Ambassador Rami Teplitsky released an unusual video in Thai, emphasizing that the diplomatic mission was taking reports and concerns involving Israeli tourists seriously.
A Chabad representative in Thailand told ynet: "These incidents are part of an ongoing affair that began on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. That evening, following a demonstration by antisemitic elements outside the Chabad House in Phuket, we were forced to cancel a Rosh Hashanah dinner that had been planned for approximately 2,000 participants.
"Now, following the revocation of Rabbi Kantor's citizenship, it is clear that this affair goes far beyond the issue of citizenship. We are witnessing another disturbing development, with posters displaying extreme antisemitic imagery that evokes painful associations with the darkest periods of Jewish history, including images reminiscent of the Holocaust era."
