Unknown assailants vandalized a Jewish elementary school in Paris, French prosecutors said Sunday night.
In a statement, the Paris prosecutor’s office said several individuals carried out acts of vandalism late Saturday night at the Lubavitch Jewish elementary school Beit Hanna, located in the city’s 20th arrondissement.
According to prosecutors, three windows at the school were smashed, a closed-circuit television camera was damaged and the building’s sign was vandalized. The sign was later found in a nearby park. Authorities said the perpetrators did not enter the school building.
Police have opened an investigation on suspicion of “serious property damage,” which has been assigned to the 20th arrondissement police station.
French Interior Ministry data show that 1,570 antisemitic incidents were recorded nationwide in 2024. In the first eight months of 2025, 889 such incidents have already been reported. Full figures for 2025 are expected to be released later this month.
In November, French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said he was “fully committed to the security of Jewish institutions and to the fight against antisemitism,” pledging not to compromise on protecting the Jewish community.
