Younger men

Is 'younger' really a relative term? Abigail Kasner contemplates
|
While it’s long been desirable for a man to court a younger woman, recent years have seen a reverse of trend – at least for the Hollywood set. But as all good trends do, this one has trickled down to the general populace making it acceptable for the relationship age gap to work both ways.
A trailblazer myself, already in the fourth grade I recall having a crush on a first grade chap (wonder if he’s still around).
In my early through mid-twenties I continued to date younger men almost exclusively, until a few years ago when I ended a year-long relationship with a man five years younger. At that point, I swore off younger men for good. Call me old fashioned, but a girl has her reasons.
Younger, however, is a relative term. For example, I wouldn’t say a year really makes a difference.
When I recounted the story of how I recently ended up in conversation with a male nine years my junior to my girlfriends, they all made light of the gap of their own tales of dating men five, six years younger.
What’s the difference between three or five or nine years? “Well,” I put it in terms we women can better understand. What’s the difference in gaining one, five or nine kilos? I’d say a couple of dress sizes.
Hence the formula, if the difference isn’t going to fit in pants, it’s not gonna fit in dates. Then again, if you’ve been looking for an excuse to get fat, delve in sisters.
