Cristiano Ronaldo could hang up his cleats at the end of the coming season. The Portuguese phenomenon dropped a bombshell Sunday when he revealed in a joint interview with his wife, Georgina, for Vogue magazine that the coming season may be the one after which he announces his retirement.
“This will probably be my last year in soccer,” the 41-year-old Saudi Al Nassr star said, about a month after bidding farewell to World Cup matches. “And I want to leave a spectacular legacy.” Georgina responded: “I am not ready for his retirement, and I probably never will be.”

“I am already planning my entire future,” the Portuguese star continued. “I have so many things that will keep me busy that it is hard for me to choose just one thing. Retirement from soccer will leave a big void, and I will have to fill my time with different things, not just one.” He then revealed what he is looking forward to: “I want to enjoy more, travel more, watch and play padel, which I love very much.”
It should be noted that this is not the first statement hinting at what is to come. In an interview in November 2025 on the online program “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” he said: “Retirement will be soon. I think I will be ready for it. It will be difficult, of course. I will probably cry. I am a guy who cries easily. I do not keep my emotions inside. I do not. I am an open person. But I have been preparing my future since I was 25, 26, so I think I will be able to withstand that pressure.”
