Iranian soccer officials, coaches and players are set to receive security briefings on how to act should a war with Israel break out during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to a report by IranWire. Intelligence officials from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other agencies are expected to participate in the sessions.
"The security and military institutions will brief federation officials, coaches, and especially the players on how to handle any potential propaganda scenarios during the World Cup, in case a new military confrontation erupts between Iran and Israel," a source told the outlet.
Despite the preparations, the source reportedly downplayed the likelihood of a conflict during the tournament, citing Iran's belief that Israel would avoid launching a military operation while the United States — one of the hosts — is overseeing the event.
Iran has qualified as one of eight Asian teams set to compete in the 2026 World Cup, which will take place across the United States, Mexico and Canada.
