Italy’s national airline, ITA Airways, announced Saturday evening that it is canceling its overnight flights to Israel through Tuesday, citing heightened security tensions in the Middle East.
On Friday, KLM, the Netherlands’ national carrier, said it was canceling its flights to Tel Aviv through Sunday, inclusive. The move came in addition to the suspension of its flights to Dubai and Saudi Arabia. KLM operates a daily service on the Tel Aviv–Amsterdam route.
About a week and a half ago, the Lufthansa Group, which includes Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings, announced that due to the situation in the Middle East it would operate daytime flights only to and from Ben Gurion Airport. The group has since stressed that only a limited number of flights were canceled, with most overnight flights shifted to daytime hours.
In addition to changes on routes to Israel, Lufthansa is avoiding Iranian and Iraqi airspace until further notice. Israeli airports are continuing to operate as usual, with no changes. Should there be any developments, the Israel Airports Authority will issue a public notice.
