Tel Aviv’s 100-year-old Nordoy Hotel reopens after major renovation

Historic hotel reopens after a major preservation and renovation project valued at 10 million shekels; now part of Fattal Colors, the adults-only boutique hotel offers 22 redesigned rooms, a rooftop jacuzzi, a spa and a stylish new look

The hotel first opened in 1925 and is now reopening after an extensive renovation valued at about 10 million shekels (about $2.7 million). The Fattal hotel group announced Monday that it is relaunching the Nordoy Hotel as an adults-only property within its Fattal Colors boutique collection.
Nordoy was operated for nearly 90 years by the Marcus family before it was sold in 2015 to developer Uri Hayut. At the end of December 2024, Fattal purchased the building for 56.5 million shekels (about $15.3 million). The property sits in central Tel Aviv in the Nahalat Binyamin district, a historic pedestrian street known for its markets, cafés and weekly arts fair. It is a short walk from Allenby Street, the Carmel Market, Rothschild Boulevard and the Mediterranean coastline.

A night at the hotel, including breakfast, starts at 1,390 shekels (about $375).
“Nordoy, built in 1925, was the first building in the city that was planned from the start as a hotel rather than converted from another structure,” the company said. “It was part of the early expansion of what became modern Tel Aviv and was designed by architect Yehuda Megidovitch, one of the founders of the city’s eclectic architectural style and later its first municipal engineer. The building is recognized as one of Tel Aviv’s most significant, blending European, Jewish and Middle Eastern design elements. It appears on historic postcards and in numerous architecture exhibitions, and its silver dome is viewed as a distinctive feature of the city’s skyline.”
The redesigned interior takes a contemporary approach, blending warm minimalism with classic touches. Furnishings draw inspiration from midcentury eclectic design, mixing refined retro elements with modern softness. Handwoven silk rugs and linen drapes were selected to soften the rooms and add a sense of calm. Each of the hotel’s 22 rooms and suites was planned individually, preserving original proportions and opening toward the urban landscape with balconies overlooking the city.

One of the project’s key additions is the transformation of the rooftop into an urban deck with a jacuzzi and panoramic views of Tel Aviv. The hotel also includes a spa, a landscaped interior patio and an elegant lounge.

Asaf Fattal and Nadav Fattal, co-CEOs of Fattal Hotels, said the purchase of Nordoy is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the group’s presence in Israel’s hospitality market. “In the past 12 months alone, we are opening about eight new hotels with an investment of about 1.6 billion shekels (about $435 million), adding more than 1,000 rooms in prime locations in Tel Aviv, Herzliya and Jerusalem. With its history and distinctive design, Nordoy is expected to attract a wide range of guests from Israel and abroad who want to experience Tel Aviv from cultural, historical and modern perspectives.”

Dan Panorama’s 60 million shekel makeover

Another major project is the upgrade of the Dan Panorama Tel Aviv, which completed a renovation valued at 60 million shekels (about $16.2 million). As part of the overhaul, 217 of the hotel’s executive rooms were fully redesigned. The dining hall was converted into the SABRA restaurant, which now includes three terraces overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The lobby, café and pool area were also updated.

The hotel sits on Tel Aviv’s beachfront across from Charles Clore Park, within walking distance of Neve Tzedek, the Carmel Market, Jaffa’s Old City and Rothschild Boulevard.
All renovated rooms include spacious bathrooms, Sun Body toiletries, smart TVs and Nespresso machines. They also feature works by leading Israeli artists such as Larry Abramson, Sharon Poliakine and Erez Aharon, part of the Dan Hotels partnership with Gordon Gallery.
