Wizz Air wants a base in Israel, but is it really cheapest? We put it to the test

Airline plans to expand in Israel with a new base, but a ynet review shows easyJet often offers cheaper fares; on some routes, Arkia and Israir also beat the Hungarian low-cost carrier’s prices, especially around Christmas

Is Wizz Air really the cheapest airline for flights from Tel Aviv? Not necessarily. A ynet review of fares for Passover 2026 shows that easyJet is often cheaper than the Hungarian low-cost carrier, which is in advanced talks to open a base at Ben-Gurion Airport. The new hub would allow Wizz Air to expand its routes, increase flight frequency and station more aircraft in Israel.
EasyJet, for its part, announced last week that it will resume flights to Tel Aviv on March 29, initially operating routes to Milan, London and Amsterdam.

We checked prices for London. Between April 1 and 5, a Wizz Air ticket costs $1,506 per passenger, not including a trolley bag or seat selection. On similar dates, April 2–7, easyJet’s fare is $583 without a trolley or seat selection.
For April 6–10, Wizz Air’s price is $1,124. On comparable dates, April 7–11, easyJet currently charges $530. Even if you add seat selection, a trolley and a 23 kg suitcase on easyJet, the cost still does not reach Wizz Air’s fare without baggage or seating. These are substantial price gaps.
Take Milan, for example: between April 6 and 10, Wizz Air charges $633 with no add-ons. EasyJet’s price for April 7–11 starts at $538, also without extras.
As for Amsterdam, Wizz Air does not operate the route from Ben-Gurion. We compared easyJet with Arkia instead. On April 3–6, Arkia’s price starts at $1,076 per passenger without a trolley or seat selection. EasyJet’s comparable dates, April 4–7, start at $655 with no extras. The gap is significant, and easyJet’s entry into the market is clearly generating competition.

Beyond the Passover dates, notable differences appear at closer timeframes too. Ahead of Christmas, for example, between December 9 and 12, 2025, a Wizz Air flight to Budapest costs $633, while Arkia charges $380 on the same dates (excluding trolley and seat). In another check for December 11–14, Wizz Air’s starting price is $605, compared with $517 on Arkia, and Israir is even cheaper, starting at $453.
It is also worth noting that Passover eve falls on April 1, 2026, which partly explains Wizz Air’s higher fares near that date and gives an advantage to passengers who want to arrive before the holiday and enjoy an extra vacation day. Still, even outside the holiday eve, the gaps remain: between April 2 and 7, Wizz Air’s fare to London Luton is $900 (without trolley or seat), while easyJet offers $583 for the same dates.
Another example is Vienna: Arkia’s fare for April 3–6 is $1,076. On similar dates, April 4–7, easyJet offers flights for just $655.
