Fake El Al 'prize quiz' spreads in WhatsApp phishing scam

Israel National Cyber Directorate and El Al urge the public to beware of fake messages circulating on WhatsApp and social media offering high-value vouchers in El Al’s name

The Israel National Cyber Directorate and El Al issued an urgent warning over a wave of phishing attacks impersonating Israel’s national airline.
In recent days, malicious links have been circulating via WhatsApp groups, social media platforms and SMS messages. These links direct users to what appears to be an El Al-branded “prize quiz,” promising vouchers worth hundreds or even thousands of shekels. Authorities stress: this is a scam.

“The links lead to unofficial websites designed to steal personal information, passwords and even payment details,” the INCD said in its statement.
The directorate shared several red flags to help identify phishing attempts:
  • Suspicious URLs that are not affiliated with El Al (such as domains like luhop.cn).
  • Poor spelling or awkward translations.
  • Messages pushing for immediate action (“limited-time offer,” “only now”).
  • Requests to enter personal or banking information.
What should you do? First, verify offers only through El Al’s official website and channels. Do not click on unfamiliar links, and never share personal information in response to unsolicited messages. When in doubt, report it to the INCD’s 119 hotline.
