Israeli diplomats' kids to study on Yom Kippur

Emissaries serving in worldwide posts send children to local schools on high holidays. Foreign Ministry official says in response, ‘We cannot enter people’s private lives; there's no need to release directives on everything’

Israeli Foreign Ministry emissaries and representatives from other ministries abroad send their children to school on Yom Kippur, Yedioth Ahronoth has learned.
An Israeli citizen living in a central European country revealed that Israeli diplomats serving there told him of their intention to send their children to the local school on Yom Kippur this year, just as they have in previous years.
A clarification on Sunday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that no regulations exist regarding how Israelis should conduct themselves on the holiday.
“We expect our employees to use good judgement and logic,” said a Foreign Ministry source on Sunday. “We cannot enter people’s private lives, and there is no need to release directives on everything.
“It is true that we would expect that on such a holy day, constituting such an important symbol for the Jewish nation, emissaries would refrain from sending their children to foreign schools,” said the official.
