US to sell weapons to Israel in deal worth about $510 million

The U.S. State Department has approved a weapons sale to Israel in a deal worth approximately $510 million, including JDAM ("Heavy Hail") guidance kits for hundreds of penetrating and precision bombs. According to the announcement, Israel requested to purchase 3,845 KMU-558B/B kits for BLU-109 bombs and 3,280 KMU-572 F/B kits for MK-82 bombs. They will also be provided with logistical and engineering support from the U.S. government and private contractors. According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the deal will improve Israel's self-defense capabilities and strengthen cooperation with U.S. forces. The main contractor in the deal is Boeing Corporation, and part of the inventory will be transferred from U.S. military warehouses.
