The United States has imposed sanctions on five individuals and five charitable organizations from Algeria, the Netherlands, Italy, the West Bank and Gaza Strip, which it says have "provided significant financial support to Hamas and the PLO." The announcement about the sanctions came from the US Treasury Department, which also stated that "the organizations were presented as humanitarian entities but were actually used to transfer funds for financing terrorism."
