The U.S. Department of Justice announced that Catherine Beth Washburn, 37, of New York, was arrested and charged with attempting to provide material support to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror organization. According to court documents, Washburn transferred more than $30,000 in cryptocurrency to an individual in Gaza who identified himself as an operative in the organization. During the FBI investigation, messages were found in which she wrote that she "hates Jews" and "hopes every day will be October 7." The federal prosecutor for the Western District of New York, Michael DiGiacomo, said that "the defendant, motivated by hatred of Israel and Jews, made considerable efforts to financially assist terror organizations." Among other things, she was documented photographing herself with grenades against the backdrop of a Hamas flag.
