A coalition of major Jewish organizations in the U.S. announced that they declined an invitation to meet with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, in protest of French President Emmanuel Macron's declaration that he will recognize a Palestinian state.
"This is a unilateral move that undermines the chance for a mutually agreed settlement between Israel and the Palestinians, strengthens extremists and harms the security of Jewish people worldwide," stated the organizations in a joint declaration, including the Anti-Defamation League, AIPAC and the World Jewish Congress.
"France is acting contrary to commitments Macron made three months ago, when he set conditions for recognizing a Palestinian state - including the release of hostages and ending Hamas rule. This move sends a dangerous message of legitimizing terrorism and dishonors the memory of the October 7 victims."
