U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson said that "the 'Free Palestine' call has become a violent movement that collaborates with Hamas," at an event held in Congress to commemorate Israeli embassy employees Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lishinsky, who were murdered last month outside the Jewish Museum in Washington. According to Johnson, "This is a movement that has lost the ability to distinguish between good and evil, between light and darkness. The calls of the terrorists who attacked Israel on October 7 are almost indistinguishable from those of Hamas supporters here, in our territory. They declare that violence is just, that rape is justice and that murder is 'liberation.'" The ceremony was attended by Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Yehiel Leiter, American Jewish Committee President Ted Deutch, members of Congress and Israeli embassy staff.
