Tyler Robinson, 22, of Utah, has been identified as the suspect in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the New York Post reported on Friday.
CNN, citing law enforcement sources, said Robinson admitted to his father that he had shot and killed Kirk during an event at a Utah university two days earlier.
According to the report, Robinson’s father immediately contacted authorities and remained with his son until police arrived and took him into custody.
Kirk, 31, a pro-Israel right-wing commentator and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot in the neck while addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University. The incident was described by officials as a "political assassination."
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive.
