Thomas Brek, U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and President Trump's special envoy to Syria, stated in an interview with Turkish television that Washington will reduce its military presence in Syria and close seven of its eight bases in the country. According to him, "the policy of the last 100 years hasn't worked." The ambassador added that the U.S. role in contacts between Syria and Israel would be limited to opening channels of dialogue, and that it does not intend to lead a broad diplomatic process or serve as an active mediator.
