NY lawyers demand firing of Jewish police commissioner who acted against pro-Palestinian protests

More than 3,500 lawyers and public defenders in New York sent a letter to mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, demanding the dismissal of Jewish police commissioner Jessica Tisch, claiming that during her tenure police activity against pro-Palestinian protests in New York expanded.
The ALAA union, representing most of the city's legal services workers, alleged that under Tisch's leadership there was a connection between surveillance and policing projects and the Tisch family. Mamdani is expected to take office as mayor next week, and has previously announced his intention to keep Tisch in her position.
