A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck the Paphos region in western Cyprus on Wednesday, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The quake occurred at a depth of 14 kilometers (8.7 miles).
The tremor was strong enough to be felt across parts of the eastern Mediterranean, including in northern Israel, where residents reported light shaking to ynet. There were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage.
Cyprus lies in a seismically active zone and experiences occasional earthquakes, though most are minor.
