US: NYC officials attempted to meet with Iran's UN ambassador, administration forced to intervene

|
New York City's head of international affairs, Ana Maria Archila, planned an official meeting with Iran's UN ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, which was canceled at the last minute following intervention by State Department officials who were not informed in advance of the move and were forced to clarify to Mayor Zohran Mamdani the boundaries of permissible conduct. Archila did not inform the mayor of the initiative and was reprimanded for the step. A spokesperson for the mayor's office for international relations said in an official response that "this meeting did not take place and will not take place."
